“There were millions of them” takes us into one of the greatest epics in the history of mankind, born in the countries of continental Europe, ravaged by wars, epidemics and climate catastrophes.
Based on examples from the Rhine region, the series opens up a world map of the largest migration phenomenon known to Western history, from the end of the Thirty Years’ War to the 1920s.
The series tells some of the symbolic stories of these migrants, in a large fresco that combines animation and documentary.
